o-Cresolphthalein 2% solution in ethyl alcohol is an indicator that perfectly reflects the color range of phenolphthalein, and additionally it is “harmless” (not taking into account the risks posed by ethyl alcohol!). It can be successfully used as an indicator for the same analyzes where phenolphthalein is used. The color change at pH 8.2 is as intense as that of phenolphthalein, but the color is more durable!
